Da Nang leader receives Commander of U.S. Navy's Carrier Strike Group 5

Welcoming the delegation, Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Anh Thi noted that this marks the fourth visit by a U.S. aircraft carrier to Vietnam, with all four port calls taking place in Da Nang. She said the repeated visits reflect the strong ties and goodwill that U.S. naval personnel have developed with the city.

Providing an overview of Da Nang's socio-economic performance during the first half of 2026, Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Anh Thi highlighted the city's strategic development priorities, including seaports and logistics, high technology and the digital economy.

Da Nang is also prioritizing investment in emerging industries such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), gene technology and stem cell research.

Building on these foundations, she expressed confidence that Da Nang would continue expanding cooperation with international partners, including those from the United States, by leveraging complementary strengths to develop practical, effective and mutually beneficial projects that contribute to the sustainable development of both sides.

The Vice Chairwoman also thanked the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam, the U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City and Consul General Melissa Brown for their continued support in strengthening cooperation between Da Nang and U.S. partners.

She expressed hope that, with the continued assistance of the U.S. Embassy and Consulate General, cooperation between Da Nang and the United States would expand further, creating new opportunities in trade, investment, culture, education and people-to-people exchanges.

For her part, Melissa Brown thanked the Da Nang authorities for their support in facilitating U.S. aircraft carrier visits as well as a range of events organized by the United States in the city.

She also expressed enthusiasm for the cultural and community activities planned during the visit and invited city leaders to attend.

Rear Admiral Eric J. Anduze said the U.S.officers and sailors were delighted to return to Da Nang for the fourth aircraft carrier visit and looked forward to experiencing the city's culture, cuisine and hospitality while taking part in exchange activities throughout the programme.

Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Anh Thi accepted the invitation to attend the visit's activities and wished the U.S. delegation an enjoyable stay, expressing hope that they would gain lasting memories while exploring the beauty and culture of Da Nang.

The visit is expected to further strengthen friendship, mutual understanding and practical cooperation between Da Nang and U.S. partners, contributing to the continued development of Vietnam-U.S. relations under the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development.
