Tripadvisor names Hoi An among Southeast Asia’s top 10 attractions
DNO - Hoi An in Da Nang has been named among Southeast Asia’s 10 most popular attractions in the latest Best of the Best rankings by Tripadvisor, one of the world’s largest travel review platforms.

The list has been selected from Tripadvisor’s broader Top Attractions - Asia category as part of its annual Traveller’s Choice Awards, which recognise destinations based on the quantity and quality of traveller reviews and ratings.
Located on the banks of the romantic Hoai River, about 30km from Da Nang, the Hoi An Ancient Town has long been one of Vietnam’s most famous and attractive destinations among domestic and international visitors.
In contrast to modern cities, Hoi An captivates visitors with its moss-covered roofs, centuries-old yellow-painted walls, and colorful lanterns that have become its identity.
Established and developed in the 16th century, Hoi An was once one of the busiest international trading ports in the region.
From the 16th century onwards, it served as a major commercial hub where merchants from China, Japan, the Netherlands, India, and Spain gathered to exchange goods.
Therefore, the architectural structures and cultural values of the ancient town reflect a unique blend of Eastern and Western cultures.
Hoi An is now home to 1,360 historical relics, including 1,068 ancient houses, 11 ancient wells, 38 clan ancestral houses, 19 pagodas, 43 temples dedicated to deities, 23 communal houses, 44 special ancient tombs, and one historic bridge.
Beyond its tranquil and nostalgic charm, Hoi An offers a wide range of experiences that cater to diverse visitor interests.
Furthermore, its rich cuisine and the hospitality of locals are also among the factors that encourage travelers to stay longer and return.
Hoi An Ancient Town was recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage Site in 1999. It has been repeatedly voted by prestigious organizations and magazines worldwide as one of Asia’s top cultural urban destinations.
Besides Hoi An, the War Remnants Museum based in Ho Chi Minh City has also made it into the list of top 10 most popular attractions in Southeast Asia, according to Tripadvisor.
Other destinations on the list include Gardens by the Bay and the Botanic Gardens (Singapore), Angkor Wat and Bayon Temple (Cambodia), Petronas Twin Towers (Malaysia), Wat Pho and Wat Arun (Thailand), and Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary (Indonesia).
