Liam Gordon from the United Kingdom and Sarah James from Canada never imagined that a planned one-year stay in Vietnam would completely reshape their careers and lifestyles.

Turning everyday experiences into global stories

The couple arrived in Vietnam expecting scenic landscapes, vibrant cuisine and warm hospitality. What surprised them most, however, was how quickly they adapted to local life and how deeply connected they felt to the country.

“We thought we would stay for a year. But Vietnam slowly became more than just a destination.” the couple shared.

How “Two Peas Abroad” sees Da Nang

This coastal gem perfectly balances laid-back beach vibes with city convenience. My Khe Beach is absolutely stunning (and way less crowded than other spots), the Dragon Bridge puts on a fire-breathing show every weekend, and the food scene is seriously underrated. Plus, it's the perfect base for exploring Hoi An and the Marble Mountains. We could totally see ourselves living here!

About six months after moving to Vietnam, Liam and Sarah began posting videos on TikTok and Instagram to keep friends and family updated about their daily experiences.

Their content focused less on luxury travel and more on authentic moments such as eating at local food stalls, navigating busy streets, visiting lesser-known destinations and interacting with local communities. The simplicity and sincerity of the videos quickly resonated with viewers worldwide.

Today, their social media platforms attract more than 300,000 followers and generate tens of millions of monthly views. The couple receive daily messages from people seeking travel recommendations, cultural advice and practical information about visiting Việt Nam.

Inspired by the growing international interest, the pair shifted toward travel content creation with a clear mission: presenting a more welcoming image of Việt Nam to the world.

According to Liam, many foreign audiences still hold limited or outdated perceptions of the country. Through their storytelling, they hope to encourage travelers to explore Vietnam with openness and curiosity.

We want to show that Vietnam is far more fascinating and welcoming than many people imagine. Its famous destinations, culture, nature and people all have a depth that deserves to be explored. Visitors should come to Vietnam with an open mind - ready to embrace a new culture, connect with local people and experience the country from many different perspectives, not just as tourists. If we can help more people understand and love this country the way we did, that would be truly meaningful.”

Liam said during recent interview with Tuoi Tre Online.

Promoting Vietnam's tourism images

The couple later launched Two Peas Abroad, a travel platform dedicated to sharing practical guides, local insights and firsthand experiences from across Vietnam.

Alongside teaching and traveling, Liam and Sarah have reportedly provided free travel advice to nearly 3,000 international visitors interested in exploring the country. Their content includes street food maps, regional travel itineraries and cultural recommendations based on personal experiences rather than commercial tourism campaigns.

For the couple, Vietnam’s appeal lies not only in famous destinations but also in the depth of its culture and everyday life.

Their journey reflects a broader shift in global tourism, where independent digital creators increasingly shape how destinations are perceived internationally. In many cases, authentic personal storytelling now carries more influence than traditional advertising campaigns.

Explaining the name “Two Peas Abroad,” the couple said it was inspired by the English idiom “like two peas in a pod,” which describes two people who are extremely alike and inseparable. For Liam and Sarah, the phrase reflects not only their similar personalities and shared passion for travel, but also the close bond they have built throughout their journey together abroad.
