Technology unlocks new cultural experiences in Da Nang
DNO - Amid the rapid pace of digital transformation, the application of technology in the cultural field is opening up new forms of experience, helping bring heritage to life and attract the public, especially younger generations.
In Da Nang, this trend is gradually taking shape, fostering creative and modern approaches to preserving and promoting cultural values.

Digital technology applied to heritage
In recent years, cultural institutions in Da Nang have been stepping up their digitalization efforts.
Specifically, at the Da Nang Museum and the Marble Mountains, exhibition spaces have been gradually integrated with QR codes, allowing visitors to access information about artifacts via mobile devices.
Virtual tours have also been piloted, enabling audiences to explore heritage without spatial limitations.
In community cultural spaces, smaller but notable experiments are also taking place. Several folk festivals and ‘bai choi’ singing, an intangible cultural heritage of Central Vietnam, have been recorded, digitized, and disseminated on online platforms.
Short video clips and live-streamed performances have helped bring these traditions beyond village settings to reach younger audiences.
Currently, the entire complex of monuments and architectural ruins at the My Son Sanctuary has been digitized.
In addition, 200 representative artifacts have been selected for 3D digitization. This technology enables precise recording of structure, materials, dimensions, and levels of deterioration, forming a valuable database to support restoration and conservation when needed.

Technology opens up new cultural spaces
As Da Nang accelerates its development into a smart city, and a hub for innovation and a knowledge-based economy, higher demands are being placed on preserving and promoting cultural values, as well as building a civilized and modern citizenry.
Documentary filmmaker Truong Vu Quynh said that in the field of photography and cinema, Da Nang should prioritize the digitalization of locations through 3D scanning technologies at major attractions such as the Son Tra Peninsula, the Marble Mountains, and the Sun World Ba Na Hills.
At the same time, the city should develop a digital location library, including image repositories, 360-degree videos, and GPS coordinates of potential filming sites, categorized by themes such as modern, historical, natural, and industrial, he noted.
From the perspective of cultural industries, the digitalization of locations presents opportunities to develop new products such as interactive documentaries, historical games, and heritage learning platforms. These products not only serve educational purposes but can also be commercialized, generating resources for reinvestment in conservation.
Furthermore, digital transformation opens up the possibility of “exporting culture”. Once heritage data is standardized and digitized, it can be shared on international platforms, contributing to positioning Da Nang as a cultural and creative hub on the global stage.
