Japan’s destroyer JS Asahi begins goodwill visit to Da Nang
DNO - The Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF)’s destroyer JS Asahi docked at Da Nang's Tien Sa Port on Thursday, beginning a four-day goodwill visit to the city.
Carrying 220 officers and crew members, the ship is led by Colonel Jio Takemasa, Commander of JMSDF Escort Flotilla No.2.
The welcoming ceremony took place at the Tien Sa Port, attended by representatives from Naval Region 3 Command, the municipal Military Command, the Border Guard Command, and relevant local agencies.
During their stay in Da Nang from April 2 to 5, the Japanese officers and crew members is scheduled to pay courtesy calls on leaders of the municipal People’s Committee and Naval Region 3 Command, as well as to take part in sports exchanges, joint maritime exercises, and local cultural and tourism activities.
Notably, the delegation will lay a wreath at the city’s September 2 Peace Monument, demonstrating respect for history and contributing to enhanced mutual understanding and trust between the naval forces of the two countries.
The visit by JS Asahi is seen as a meaningful defense diplomacy activity, helping strengthen friendship and promote substantive cooperation between Vietnam and Japan, in line with their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership which was upgraded in 2023.
