Da Nang funds $240,000 school upgrade in Salavan Province (Laos) to bolster ties
DNO - A high-level delegation from the central Vietnamese city of Da Nang joined Lao officials on Thursday to inaugurate the Friendship Primary and Secondary School, a project aimed at deepening educational ties and supporting the Vietnamese diaspora in Salavan Province.

Led by Central Committee member and Da Nang Party Committee Secretary Le Ngoc Quang, the city delegation included Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Da Nang Le Tri Thanh; Standing Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Council Tran Phuoc Son; Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee Phan Thai Binh.
On the Salavan side, in attendance at the inauguration ceremony was Central Committee member of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and Salavan Provincial Party Secretary Daovong Phonekeo.
Also present were representatives from the Vietnamese Consulate General in Pakse (Champasak Province, Laos), the Lao Consulate General in Da Nang; and a large number of Vietnamese people living in the area.

The project to upgrade the Friendship Primary School of the Vietnamese Association in Salavan Province into the Friendship Primary and Secondary School has a total investment of approximately VND6 billion (US$240,000) funded by the Da Nang budget.
The project comprises of the construction of a two-story school building with five classrooms, two offices and supporting facilities such as a garden, a fence system, and complete teaching equipment.
Construction began in 2025 and was completed after nearly a year of work, contributing to supplementing the facilities to serve the increasing learning needs of Vietnamese and Lao students in the area.
Delivering a speech at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee Phan Thai Binh emphasized that education and training is one of the key areas of cooperation between Da Nang and localities in Laos, including Salavan Province.
Besides supporting human resource training through scholarship programmes, Da Nang is committed to investing in the construction of school facilities, contributing to improving the quality of education in Salavan Province.

The completion of the project demonstrates Da Nang’s concern for the Vietnamese community living and working in Laos; contributing to strengthening the traditional friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos in general, and between Da Nang and Salavan Province in particular.
Mr. Venphet Latdavon, Vice Chairman of the Salavan Provincial Government Committee, expressed his honour and emotion at the affection shown by the Party Committee, government, and people of Da Nang towards his province.
The upgrading of the school is not simply a material support, but also a vivid testament to the special friendship between Da Nang and Salavan.
The project meets the practical needs of the people of Khongsedone District, Salavan Province, providing students with a safe and high-quality learning environment.
