Da Nang residents greets the first day of the Lunar New Year 2026 with temple visits, vibrant festivities
DNO - In the jubilant spirit of the first day of the Lunar New Year (or Tet in Vietnam) 2026 - the Year of the Horse, Da Nang residents embraced time-honored traditions, flocking to pagodas and public spaces to celebrate the arrival of spring.

The festive scenes offered a vivid portrait of a community balancing spiritual reflection with cultural vibrancy, while expressing hopes for peace, prosperity and new beginnings.
From early morning on February 17, the first day of Lunar New Year 2026, streams of people gathered at pagodas citywide to pray for health, harmony and good fortune.
At the Linh Ung Pagoda in Son Tra Ward, visitors moved in orderly lines, respectfully offering incense in a solemn atmosphere.
The tradition drew not only elderly residents but also many young people, reflecting a shared commitment to preserving cultural values at the start of the year.

Nguyen Thi Linh, a local resident said her family maintains the custom of visiting the pagoda every Lunar New Year’s morning.
“Coming to the pagoda at the beginning of the year brings a sense of calm and clarity. We hope everything will go smoothly in the months ahead”, said Linh.
Beyond the spiritual dimension, Da Nang’s public spaces pulsed with festive energy.

Along Bach Dang Street, large crowds of residents and visitors gathered early at the city’s annual flower street, strolling among elaborate floral installations and capturing photos to mark the occasion.
The colourful displays, carefully arranged with a wide variety of blossoms, created a lively and refreshing spring landscape.
This year’s centerpiece features two striking horse mascots symbolizing strength and forward momentum. One is placed near the T-shaped bridge area, embodies a dynamic and united Da Nang.

Meanwhile, the other is installed near the southern end of the Rong (Dragon) Bridge, presents a futuristic mechanical horse, conveying the city’s aspirations for innovation and breakthrough development in a new era.
For many residents, the celebrations are a source of pride. Young local Nguyen Thanh Hong An expressed confidence in Da Nang’s continued growth, wishing for a year of success, happiness and prosperity.
The bustling yet orderly festivities underscore the city’s evolving vitality, a modern urban center rooted in tradition, welcoming the new year with optimism and shared hope.
The 2026 Lunar New Year spans nine days, from Feb. 14 to 22.
The break covers the period from the 27th day of the last lunar month to the 6th day of the first lunar month.
Civil servants and public sector employees will enjoy five official days off - one day before the Lunar New Year and four days after. Combined with four adjacent weekend days, the total holiday will extend to nine consecutive days.
Work is scheduled to resume on February 23, the seventh day of the Lunar New Year.
