Russian Friends experience making ‘banh chung’ to celebrate Vietnam’s traditional Tet
DNO - The Da Nang Union of Friendship Organizations in collaboration with the branch of the Vietnam - Russia Friendship Association in the city organized a hands-on experience of making ‘banh chung’ (square sticky rice cake) for Russian friends on Saturday in celebration of the Lunar New Year (Tet) 2026.

The event was attended by Ms. Maria Mizonova, Consul General of Russia in Da Nang, along with a large number of Russian children and students who are currently living and studying in the city.

At the program, representatives of the organizers introduced the significance of the Lunar New Year (Tet) - the most important traditional festival of the Vietnamese people. It is a time for family reunions, ancestor worship, and prayers for peace, prosperity, and good fortune in the lunar new year.

Through the experience of making ‘banh chung’ themselves and listening to stories about traditional Tet customs of the past, the organizers hoped to help the Russian friends better understand the unique distinctive cultural values and customs of Tet.

At the same time, the activity aimed to create meaningful and memorable experiences for the Russian community during their time in Da Nang.

Expressing her excitement about participating in the event, Russian Consul General in Da Nang Maria Mizonova said that Vietnam is a country rich in cultural traditions, and Da Nang is a city that the Russian community holds in special affection.

“Through today’s hands-on experience, my colleagues and I, especially Russian students and schoolchildren, have gained a much deeper understanding of Vietnam’s traditional Tet celebrations and the custom of making ‘banh chung’ for Tet” she shared.
