Da Nang maps out 3 MRT, 15 LRT lines in urban railway network
DNO - As Viet Nam accelerates the development of the North - South high-speed railway, the project to relocate the existing Da Nang Railway Station out of the city center is being comprehensively reviewed. At the same time, functional agencies are urgently preparing the pre-feasibility study report for investment in the city’s urban railway system.

Priority given to relocating railway station out of the city center
Currently, the Da Nang Railway Station is located deep within the city center, causing traffic congestion, limiting urban development space, and hindering connectivity with key transportation routes such as the Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway or major economic corridor axes.
According to the municipal Department of Construction, the project to relocate the station and its related infrastructure has been reported to the city’s leaders and is undergoing completion of the pre-feasibility study. The total cost for the initial phase is estimated at approximately VND 9.045 trillion, to be funded by the state budget.
Initially, the relocation project envisioned moving the passenger station to an area near Trung Nghia Lake in the former Hoa Khanh Ward. However, due to the requirement to ensure alignment with the planning of the North - South high-speed railway, this option is no longer suitable. Therefore, relevant agencies are coordinating to review the entire pre-feasibility study in order to finalize the dossier and propose subsequent steps.
Accordingly, the immediate priority is to relocate the freight station to the Kim Lien station area, while concurrently pursuing the construction of a new passenger station in Hoa Son area, north of the Hoang Van Thai intersection, near the southern bypass of the Hai Van Tunnel.
This adjustment aims to optimize connectivity between the high-speed railway, the national railway, expressways, seaports, and the inter-regional transport system.

Pre-feasibility study for urban railway project
In addition to the restructuring of the national railway station system, Da Nang is also expediting the completion of the pre-feasibility study report for the city’s urban railway project.
Under the approved plan, Da Nang’s urban railway network will comprise three MRT (Metro) lines, 12 LRT (Light Rail Transit) lines, and three tourism-oriented LRT lines, with a total projected length of nearly 283 kilometers. The network is designed to connect key urban areas with surrounding localities.
Priority urban railway lines under study will include the route linking Da Nang International Airport with Hoi An, Tam Ky and Chu Lai, as well as the route connecting the high-speed railway station to the central urban railway station (LRT Line 10 under the approved plan).
It is noted that the urban railway project is included in the list of the city’s key infrastructure projects for the 2025 - 2030 period and receives special attention from the municipal Party Committee.
The development of an urban railway system in Da Nang is of significant importance, contributing to the local socio-economic growth, improving transportation infrastructure, and enhancing the quality of life for local residents.
