In his opening address, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee Ho Quang Buu stated that cooperation between Da Nang and Daegu has been built on a foundation of mutual understanding, respect and a shared commitment to joint development.

In recent years, the two cities have carried out a range of substantive cooperative activities in areas such as exchanges of delegations, education and training, culture, tourism, and notably information technology (IT) and communications.

A business dialogue between Da Nang and Daegu was held as a practical platform for local authorities and enterprises to exchange views and explore ways to strengthen cooperation in the information and communications technology (ICT) industry.

Da Nang positions itself as a core growth engine of Vietnam’s central key economic region, with strengths spanning start-ups, innovation, tourism, trade, finance, logistics, high-tech manufacturing and information technology.

This central Vietnamese city has consistently ranked first nationwide in the ICT Development and Readiness Index and has repeatedly been recognised with Vietnam Smart City awards.

For the time being, Da Nang is accelerating major strategic projects, including the completion of Software Park No. 2, the establishment of the Da Nang Free Trade Zone linked to Lien Chieu Port, and the development of an international financial centre.

In this context, the city seeks to deepen cooperation with Daegu, particularly in human resource training and technology transfer in smart city solutions, the Internet of Things (IoT), robotics and artificial intelligence.

Da Nang also aims to enable local software firms to join the ICT service supply chains of major Daegu-based corporations.

Speaking at the dialogue, Kim Jung Ki, Acting Mayor of Daegu, such a meeting marks an important starting point for elevating cooperation between the business communities of the two cities to a more strategic and sustainable level, building on mutual trust and the achievements accumulated over time.

Daegu is actively promoting next-generation industries underpinned by ICT, such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, smart healthcare and digital manufacturing, while fostering an open innovation ecosystem that brings together enterprises, universities and research institutes.

For the time ahead, he expressed the hope that businesses from Daegu and Da Nang would move beyond Asia to access global markets through joint projects, technological cooperation and exchanges of skilled human resources, contributing to deeper and more future-oriented bilateral ties.

At the event, the two sides discussed cooperation opportunities in technology and innovation, with a focus on strengthening business linkages, connecting startup ecosystems, and inviting Daegu to participate in major technology events hosted by Da Nang.

They also explored plans to establish a Daegu technology showcase space in Da Nang to present advanced technologies and expand collaboration among businesses, research institutions and training organisations from both cities.

Daegu and Da Nang first established friendly relations in 2004, which were upgraded to a sister-city partnership in 2018.

Over the past two decades, the two cities have maintained close and substantive cooperation across a wide range of fields, including the economy, culture and people-to-people exchanges.

In recent years, these exchanges have expanded into ICT, a sector regarded as central to future growth, a development he described as particularly meaningful.
