Hoi An Dong strives towards sustainable tourism development
DNO - From the Thanh Dong organic vegetable garden to the Bay Mau nipa palm forest and the Field- Opening Festival, Hoi An Dong Ward is developing sustainable community-based tourism that protects nature, preserves culture, and supports local livelihoods.
From organic farming to community-based tourism
Visiting the Thanh Dong vegetable garden, Glenn Lobo from the UK and other tourists donned farmer outfits, learnt about organic crops, and tried traditional tools. These authentic rural experiences are drawing travellers to the peaceful countryside of Quang land.
According to Lobo, the trip offered not just sightseeing but a chance to learn local organic farming. He was delighted to add this hands-on experience to his Vietnam itinerary.
The Thanh Dong organic vegetable garden now receives about 100 visitors a day, with bookings full through Lunar New Year.
The garden now partners with tour providers and schools to offer farm tours, hands-on learning, cooking activities, and coracle trips, opening a new chapter where Thanh Dong farmers earn tourism income from their land.
A green destination along the Thu Bon river
Near Thanh Dong, the Bay Mau nipa palm forest offers coracle tours, net-fishing, coracle dance and Bai Choi folk performances in a unique riverside ecosystem.
The Bay Mau nipa palm forest is located in Cam Thanh - one of the top 50 most beautiful villages in the world (2025) by Forbes, while Tripadvisor ranked coracle tours among the top 25 boat experiences globally in 2024.
The opening of the Thanh Tam Inland Waterway Wharf in October 2025 further strengthened water-based tourism. For locals, tourism has provided stable livelihoods and pride in welcoming visitors.
In 2026, the ward plans to expand culture-focused tourism products and continue upgrading infrastructure to build a green, safe and sustainable destination.
