“Thank you, Vietnam”: Da Nang’s kindness wins tourist’s heart
DNO - Authorities in the central Vietnamese coastal city of Da Nang on December 25 assisted a tourist from Hong Kong (China) in recovering a mobile phone accidentally dropped into a roadside drainage system.

This story has drawn attention to Da Nang's reputation as a safe and welcoming destination for international visitors.
According to the Da Nang Police Department, the female tourist was traveling in the Hai Chau Ward when her iPhone slipped from her hand and fell through a narrow opening into a deep storm drain.
Due to the depth of the drain and the limited access, the tourist was unable to retrieve the phone on her own and sought assistance from local authorities.
Upon receiving the report, Da Nang police officers arrived promptly at the scene. Using specialized equipment, the officers lifted the concrete drain cover and conducted a careful retrieval operation.
After a period of effort, the phone was successfully recovered and returned to the tourist. Police confirmed that the device remained fully operational when handed back.
The foreign tourist was visibly moved, repeatedly bowing and expressing her gratitude: “Thank you, Vietnam. Thank you, Da Nang police. I am truly surprised. You were not only quick to respond but also deeply dedicated. I feel very safe and warmly welcomed here.”
The incident reflects a broader pattern of support provided by local authorities to foreign visitors in the city, particularly in cases involving lost or forgotten property.
Earlier on November 8, two Russian tourists traveling by coach from Nha Trang to Da Nang discovered several hours after arrival that they had left behind a laptop and a handbag containing a passport, a mobile phone, a necklace and approximately VND50 million in cash.
After reporting the loss to the Da Nang Police, local officers swiftly verified the information, traced the vehicle and coordinated with relevant parties to recover the items. All belongings were later returned intact.
Local officials say such cases demonstrate Da Nang’s ongoing efforts to ensure visitor safety and positive travel experiences.
Known for its beaches, modern infrastructure and growing international tourism profile, Da Nang continues to strengthen its image as a reliable, secure and visitor-friendly destination in Southeast Asia.
