Da Nang airport ready for the 2026 Lunar New Year travel peak
DNO - Ahead of the Lunar New Year travel peak, Da Nang International Airport has rolled out a comprehensive service plan to ensure aviation security, safety, and service quality amid rising passenger and flight volumes.

Holiday flight volumes near designed capacity
Phan Kieu Hung, Director of Da Nang International Airport, said the 2026 holiday peak plan was built on analysis of past operations, alongside the expansion of international routes, new airlines, and rising Lunar New Year travel demand.
During the Western New Year period (December 22, 2025 - January 4, 2026), Da Nang International Airport is expected to handle 3,574 take-offs and landings, up 7.6% year-on-year, averaging 130–146 flights per day.
During the peak Lunar New Year period (February 10 - 24, 2026), Da Nang Airport is expected to handle 5,042 flight movements, a 37% increase from 2025, with daily flights reaching around 343. The number of wide-body flights, particularly on international routes, will also rise significantly, with 9 - 11 per day.

Infrastructure, staffing, and coordination at maximum readiness
To handle the increased load, Mr. Hung said the airport has completed all runway maintenance before December 30, 2025, with regular inspections to ensure safety. During peak periods, 57 parking stands will be available, with military aprons No. 4 and No. 8 used if needed according to contingency plans.
The domestic terminal can handle 2,700 passengers per hour with 52 check-in counters and self-service kiosks, while the international terminal accommodates 1,800 passengers per hour with 63 check-in counters, 20 immigration desks, and self-service systems.
The 2026 Lunar New Year Peak Operations Steering Committee has been set up, with 24/7 operations at the Airport Operations Control Centre (AOCC) to address any incidents and ensure smooth operations.

Da Nang Airport has enhanced coordination with air traffic control and military units to optimise flight flows. Security forces are reinforced at key areas, with emergency response plans on high alert.
With these preparations, Da Nang International Airport is ready to handle peak passenger demands during the 2026 Lunar New Year, ensuring a smooth and safe holiday season.
