What sets Da Nang apart in sustainable high-end tourism

Smoke-free hotel policies
The central coastal city has emerged as a national leader in promoting green and responsible hospitality, with concrete actions increasingly embedded in daily hotel operations.
One notable example is the growing adoption of smoke-free hotel policies, reflecting a broader shift toward health-conscious and environmentally responsible tourism.
In 2025, the inaugural “Outstanding Smoke-Free Hotel” recognition programme, jointly organized by the Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund, Culture Newspaper and relevant partners, completed its final review round.
A total of 44 accommodation facilities nationwide are expected to be honoured. Remarkably, 13 of them, nearly 30 percent, are located in Da Nang, the highest number recorded by any locality in Vietnam.
The recognized facilities span three-to five-star categories, with a strong concentration in the four- and five-star segment, underscoring the proactive role of Da Nang’s upscale accommodation sector in adopting sustainable standards.
According to Ms. Ha Thi Dieu Vien, the General Manager of Silk Sense Hoi An River Resort, smoke-free regulations have been strictly implemented since the resort began operations, in full compliance with Vietnam’s Law on Tobacco Harm Prevention.
Participation in the program aligns with the resort’s long-term sustainability strategy, contributing to the protection of guests’ and employees’ health while enhancing the destination’s green, clean and safe image.
Notably, Silk Sense Hoi An River Resort was also the first accommodation facility in Vietnam to announce a “plastic waste-free hotel” initiative in 2023.
Similarly, representatives of Vanda Hotel in central Da Nang noted that participation in the ranking goes beyond earning a title. It serves as an opportunity to further standardize management practices in line with international norms and to improve service quality through a sustainability-oriented approach.
Despite serving international markets with relatively high smoking rates, the hotel has gradually gained guest support through clear regulations, professional service and consistent communication.
Sustained green commitment earns Da Nang global recognition
With sustainability integrated into their development strategies from the outset, many high-end accommodation facilities in Da Nang have been able to establish and project their brands at an international level.
This is reflected in the city’s strong performance at major global award platforms, most recently at the World Travel Awards 2025, where Da Nang recorded the highest number of award-winning resorts nationwide.
Among the honorees, InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort was named “World’s Leading Green Resort 2025” for the seventh time; Mercure Danang French Village Bana Hills secured the title of “World’s Leading Theme Resort 2025” for the sixth time; and Hoiana Resort & Golf was recognized for the second consecutive year as the “World’s Leading Fully Integrated Resort.”
Da Nang currently hosts over 2,300 accommodation facilities, including more than 160 four- and five-star properties with over 30,400 rooms, the largest high-end inventory in Vietnam.
