A proactive approach to the Muslim travel market
DNO - At the seminar “Da Nang - A Muslim-Friendly Tourism Destination”, held on December 12, experts affirmed that Da Nang has strong potential to attract the Muslim travel market.
Expanding capacity to welcome Muslim travellers
Da Nang is steadily expanding its capacity to serve Muslim travellers, with around 40 Halal and Indian restaurants, more than 10 Halal-certified venues, over 100 vegetarian eateries, and hundreds of seafood restaurants suitable for Muslim visitors.
The city has also stepped up promotion in key markets such as Indonesia, Malaysia, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), and the Middle East, supported by direct and charter flights.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Dinh Cong Hoang from the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, the global Halal tourism market now contributes over USD 300 billion and is projected to reach 230 million travellers by 2028.
He said that Da Nang holds strong advantages as an international gateway with direct links to major Muslim hubs and a reputation as a modern, safe destination.
High-end hotels and resorts are well positioned to meet Muslim needs, offering prayer facilities, Qibla directions, and private accommodations that appeal particularly to Middle Eastern families and younger Muslim travellers.
Developing a comprehensive Halal ecosystem
Drawing on experience serving Muslim guests, Doan Van Tuan, Executive Chef at Furama Resort Da Nang, said that service quality, food standards, and well-trained human resources, especially honesty and professionalism, are crucial to earning trust from Muslim travellers.
Doan Van Tuan also recommended in-depth training on Islamic culture for tourism staff and greater support for businesses seeking Halal certification.
Meanwhile, Phan Thi Van Thao from Crystal Bay (Da Nang Branch) said that Muslim tourists tend to stay longer, spend more, and prefer all-inclusive packages, while placing Halal compliance above aesthetics when choosing accommodation.
Based on these strengths, Dr. Dinh Cong Hoang proposed a phased roadmap for developing Da Nang’s Halal ecosystem, aiming to position the city as a leading Halal tourism destination in Vietnam by 2030.
