U.S. naval ships pay a friendly visit to Da Nang City
DNO - On the evening of December 8, a U.S. Navy task group, consisting of the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli and the guided-missile cruiser USS Robert Smalls, arrived in Da Nang for a friendly visit.
The delegation of more than 2,000 officers and sailors was led by Rear Admiral Thomas Shultz, Commander of the U.S. Expeditionary Strike Group SEVEN.
At Tien Sa Port, the guided-missile cruiser USS Robert Smalls docked while the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli anchored offshore. USS Tripoli, the second America-class vessel in the U.S. Navy, is capable of deploying Marine forces and supporting humanitarian missions worldwide.
A welcoming ceremony was held with representatives from Da Nang authorities, Naval Region 3, Military Region 5, and relevant defence agencies in attendance.
During the four-day visit from December 8 to 11, the task group’s commanders will pay courtesy calls on the Da Nang People’s Committee, Military Region 5, and Naval Region 3.
The programme features joint at-sea activities, professional exchanges in firefighting, damage control, and maritime medicine, as well as friendly sports matches with Vietnamese naval forces.
The delegation will also take part in community exchange programs with children at the Village of Hope, students at the University of Foreign Language Studies (University of Da Nang), and visit cultural and tourist attractions around the city.
The year 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of Vietnam - U.S. diplomatic relations. The visit by the U.S. Navy contributes to strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2023.
With its attractive tourism offerings, cultural richness, economic potential, and welcoming spirit, Da Nang stands ready to serve as a bridge for enhanced defence-security cooperation, cultural and sports exchanges, and professional collaboration between the navies of both countries.
