Da Nang’s journey towards NetZero city
DNO - Da Nang is transitioning its growth model from a linear economy to a circular one in tandem with developing clean energy and green tourism. These synchronous solutions contribute to realizing its goal of becoming an “eco-friendly, smart and livable city” and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Launched in 2008, the project “Building Da Nang - An Environmental City” marked an important milestone in the city’s orientation for sustainable urban development.
After 17 years of implementation, the project's objectives and activities have taken root in community life, becoming a strong spreading movement in society.
Throughout its implementation, Da Nang has won many prestigious awards at both home and abroad, including “ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable Cities Award” in 2011; “Smart, Green, Clean Environmental Management City Award” in 2021, 2023 and 2024; and three consecutive years leading the Environmental Protection Performance Indicators (PEPI) announced by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
In order to continue to maintain and uphold the achieved results, the municipal People's Committee issued Plan No. 171 dated June 27, 2025 to implement the 2025 phase of the project.
In the energy sector, Da Nang has identified solar energy and biomass as two potential areas. The city is now calling for investment in renewable energy projects, encouraging the use of green energy in high-consumption industries, and building a financial mechanism to support clean energy development and pollution reduction.
According to Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Science and Technology Le Thi Thuc, the transformation of the growth model from a linear economy to a circular one is an inevitable trend and a strategic breakthrough to ensure sustainable development that balances economic growth with environmental protection.
She added that Da Nang has early identified green tourism as one of the three pillars of development by 2045, and set a target to become "Asia's leading ecological, smart and livable city".
The simultaneous development of green tourism, circular economy and clean energy is shaping a sustainable ecosystem in line with the city’s Net Zero strategy by 2050.
