As reported by Vietnam’s Thanh Nien (Youth) Newspaper and https://daidoanket.vn, on October 30, police officers in Hoi An Dong Ward confirmed they had received a handwritten letter of thanks from the group, 3 Australians and 2 Germans, expressing their heartfelt gratitude.

“My family and friends express our sincere thanks and gratitude to Hoi An Dong Ward Police for coming to Cam Thanh to evacuate us from our apartment. Thank you very much for taking care of us”, the letter read.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of October 29, as prolonged heavy rain caused widespread flooding across Hoi An Dong Ward. Roads were submerged, and many residents were forced to evacuate. The 5 foreign tourists had been stranded when torrential rains inundated the area and cut off power.

When authorities received an emergency call reporting these trapped tourists, the ward police quickly mobilized rescue teams, using boats and specialized equipment to navigate through strong currents and poor visibility.

Despite freezing water and limited access, officers waded through flooded streets to reach the isolated house.

Within a short time, all of the 5 tourists were brought to safety and transported to a temporary shelter, where they were provided with food, drinking water and dry clothing.

According to police representatives, the rescue was among several operations conducted during the ongoing floods.

“The situation changed rapidly, but we were determined not to leave anyone behind,” an officer said.

The heartfelt letter from the rescued tourists has since circulated widely among local residents, serving as a reminder of human solidarity in the face of disaster.

In a city where community and hospitality define daily life, the moment captured how compassion of Hoi An, Da Nang, Vietnam extends even amid the fiercest storms.
