Hoi An villas open doors to residents fleeing floods
DNO - Several tourist villas in Hoi An, now part of Da Nang, Vietnam have opened their doors free of charge to local residents displaced by severe flooding.
Water levels in the ancient town have exceeded the highest warning level since October 27 and remain dangerously high. Hundreds of homes in Hoi An are submerged under one to two meters of water.
In an effort to support the community amid the challenging time, a number of local villas have announced temporary shelters for affected residents.
At the Mian Villa on Nguyen Tuan Street in Hoi An, more than 30 residents, mostly from the hardest-hit neighborhoods, have been staying at the villa since the afternoon of October 27.
“We have instant noodles, snacks, and drinking water available for everyone. The villa can still accommodate around 20 more people. We also have another villa prepared, with space for about 50 evacuees, in case the flooding continues", said Tien Dat, the manager of the Mian Villa.
In a similar supportive vein, Home River Villa in Tan Thanh Beach area, despite hosting several tourists, has arranged vacant rooms to shelter local families escaping the flood.
Across Hoi An’s parts, several villas situated on higher ground are offering free accommodation to residents.
Each villa in Hoi An typically has 5 - 15 rooms and can host between 20 and 50 people.
Their efforts are easing the burden on local authorities responsible for evacuation and temporary housing amid the flood season.
