Da Nang emerges as favorite destination for CIS tourists
DNO - With its advantages of high-end beach resorts, quality services, safe and friendly destinations, and a wide range of tourism products after recent administrative expansion, Da Nang is emerging as a favorite destination for tourists from the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States).

New market with great potential
In the first 9 months of 2025, Da Nang’s tourism sector welcomed more than 14.4 million overnight guests, up over 22% year-on-year. Of which, international visitors reached 5.8 million, a rise of 31%.
Particularly notable is the growth of the CIS market which includes nine member countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, with more than 220,000 arrivals, accounting for nearly 4.2% of Da Nang’s total international arrivals.
The year 2025 also marked a successful season for the CIS market when the direct flights from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan were launched, operating a total of 16 flights per week.
Although Russia has yet to open a direct air route to Da Nang, the Russian tourist market has shown remarkable growth in recent times. From around 68,000 visitors in 2024, the figure doubled within the first nine months of 2025.
Along with Russian tourists, the number of tourists from other CIS countries, especially those with direct flights to Da Nang such as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, has surged, with 91,000 Kazakhstani arrivals in the first nine months alone.
On April 2, 2025, Da Nang welcomed the first flight from Kazakhstan carrying over 300 passengers. Over the past 9 months, more than 30 flights from CIS destinations have brought a large number of tourists, ranking this market among the top sources of international visitors to the city.
Building a systematic strategy
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Tham, Director of the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Center, one of Da Nang's strengths is its experiential tourism products that combine heritage, culture, and city tours.
In addition, after recent administrative merger with Quang Nam Province, Da Nang has more than 2,300 hotels. Among its 44,000 hotel rooms, nearly 47% belong to four- and five-star establishments. These hotels, which have served international visitors from South Korea, China, and Japan in recent times, have standardized their services with major brands.
To maintain growth momentum and attract visitors from the CIS market in 2026, the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Center will advise the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to participate in major travel fairs in Russian, as well as strengthen marketing and promotional activities.
At the same time, the city will cooperate with localities such as Nha Trang and Phu Quoc to promote international arrivals from Russian and other CIS countries on domestic flights to Nha Trang and Phu Quoc to explore Da Nang as an additional destination.
Moreover, the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Center has launched a Russian-language information portal to provide CIS travelers with reliable and up-to-date resources on the city’s tourism products.
