Sun Group launches Sun PhuQuoc Airways with inaugural flight on Nov. 1
DNO - Sun Group officially launched Sun PhuQuoc Airways, the country’s first “resort airline” model connecting Phu Quoc “Pearl Island” with travellers around the world, with its inaugural flight on November 1, 2025.
The new carrier aims to strengthen air connectivity to Phu Quoc, recently named Asia’s most beautiful island by CNTraveler, as the destination prepares to host APEC 2027 and emerge as a global tourism hub.
Vietnamese conglomerate Sun Group has announced the official launch of Sun PhuQuoc Airways on October 15 in the capital city of Ha Noi, marking a new chapter in the integration of tourism and aviation in Vietnam.
Sun PhuQuoc Airways has officially started ticket sales on its website www.sunphuquocairways.com, preparing for its first commercial flights on November 1.
In its initial phase, the airline will initially operate routes connecting Phu Quoc with Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Noi and Da Nang, as well as flights between Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City, and between Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang.
Beginning in December 2025, the network will expand to new routes such as Ha Noi - Da Nang and Cam Ranh - Phu Quoc.
The airline debuts at a time when air travel demand to Phu Quoc is set to surge, following the island serving as the host of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in 2027 that is expected to attract 10,000 - 12,000 delegates, including heads of state and government from 21 member economies.
For the first time in Vietnam, an airline is named after an island, a symbolic choice reflecting Sun Group’s long-term commitment to Phu Quoc’s sustainable growth.
Sun PhuQuoc Airways is envisioned as both a connector and catalyst, offering high-quality direct flights that link the island with major domestic and international destinations, reducing travel times and dependence on transit hubs.
According to Sun Group Chairman Dang Minh Truong, the airline will provide “affordable direct flights and seamless travel experiences from sky to ground,” completing the group’s integrated tourism ecosystem and advancing the vision of positioning Phu Quoc and Vietnam as leading destinations in Asia.
Sun PhuQuoc Airways received its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and Approved Training Organization (ATO) license from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam on September 25, 2025.
Its initial fleet includes three Airbus A321NX and A321CEO aircraft, with plans to expand to eight by the end of 2025 and 30–35 by 2027.
To secure long-term growth, the airline has signed a capital arrangement agreement with 3 major Vietnamese banks - BIDV, VietinBank, and MB - to finance future aircraft acquisitions and network expansion.
Phu Quoc has been named one of the World’s Most Wonderful Islands 2025 by the world-renowned travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler (CN Traveler), ranking third globally and first in Asia with an impressive 95.51 points.
The Vietnamese “Pearl Island” surpassed iconic destinations such as the Maldives, Bali and Phuket, falling just 0.01 points short of second place.
Phu Quoc was previously an island district under Kien Giang Province, but since July 1, 2025, Kien Giang has been merged into An Giang under a national administrative restructuring, resulting in the establishment of the special zone.
