Digitizing museums in Da Nang for elevating visitor experience
DNO - Digitizing museum activities has become a key strategy for museums to maintain their relevance and accessibility to the public.
In recent years, museums across Da Nang have been actively applying advances in digital transformation.
Specifically, in 2016, a multilingual audio guide system via mobile devices was introduced at the Da Nang Museum. To prepare for this, the museum had previously built a database of 600 typical documents and artifacts on the fixed display system.
In 2023, the Da Nang Museum continued to implement digital transformation by building and standardizing the database of artifacts, and managing artifacts using QR codes for more than 500 artifacts made of paper, textiles and wood currently stored in the warehouse.
Till date, the Da Nang Museum has digitized its exhibition space on the YooLife digital platform, offering visitors an immersive experience.
This platform uses virtual reality (VR) technology to create a 3D exhibition space that allows users to explore over 2,500 artifacts with detailed interactions from anywhere.
Thanks to YooLife, the historical and cultural values preserved at the Da Nang Museum have become closer than ever, reaching younger audiences and Vietnamese communities around the world.
Da Nang has been one of the first localities in Vietnam to apply 3D scanning technology for displaying Cham artifacts since late 2020.
Accordingly, the city’s Museum of Cham Sculpture has deployed 3D scanning to allow viewers to examine multi-angle models, zoom in on details, and take virtual tours.
At the same time, more than 80 artifacts have been attached with QR codes to access extended interpretation content. The 3D Scan and VR360 technologies have supported virtual tours, offering 360-degree perspectives and bilingual (Vietnamese - English) narrations.
Dr. Ha Thi Suong from the Quang Nam Museum, said that digitalization has transformed museums from mere repositories into vibrant spaces of culture, history, experience, interaction, and discovery.
Da Nang is now considered to be facing a great opportunity to become a model city of digital transformation in the museum and cultural heritage sectors.
With the proper investment, strategic vision and close cooperation, museums citywide have great potential to become attractive, vibrant destinations connecting the past with the present and the future, thereby luring more visitors from all over the world.
