Da Nang applies nuclear science and technology to serve socio-economic development

DNO - Hosted by the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute and the People's Committee of Da Nang, the 16th National Conference on Nuclear Science and Technology in 2025 (VINANST - 16) took place in the city on Wednesday morning.

Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Le Xuan Dinh noted that over the past 40 years, Vietnam’s atomic energy industry has made remarkable strides from basic research to applications in healthcare, agriculture, industry, radiation safety, environmental monitoring and human resource training.

These achievements, he emphasized, have made practical contributions to the country’s socio-economic development, and ensuring public health, and energy security.

Speaking at the conference, Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Pham Duc An stated that atomic energy has been increasingly applied in many areas of life such as industry, agriculture, healthcare, environment, and scientific research, making practical contributions to the country’s socio-economic development.

In Da Nang, there are currently over 500 radiation facilities, focusing mainly on the application of radiation and radioactive isotopes in medical diagnosis and treatment with many advanced techniques of nuclear medicine, oncology - radiotherapy.

In addition, some facilities utilize radiation sources and equipment for security inspection, screening, industrial irradiation, and food preservation, thereby making an important contribution to the local socio-economic growth.

Recognizing great values ​​of atomic energy applications in many sectors, Da Nang hopes to receive support and cooperation from relevant ministries, international organizations, experts and scientists to promote the application of nuclear technology and techniques in serving the tasks of socio-economic development, environmental protection and public healthcare as well as in improving endogenous capacity to better respond to current challenges.

Chairman An highlighted that the VINANST - 16 offered an opportunity for scientists to meet, exchange and discuss scientific research results in the field of atomic energy.

It, at the same time, proposed solutions to enhance the efficiency of atomic energy application as a scientific basis for policymaking and the development of Vietnam’s nuclear energy sector in the coming years, he added.

The city leader expressed his belief that under the leadership of the Party and the Government, along with the strong engagement of ministries, agencies, scientists, localities, and enterprises, Vietnam’s nuclear energy sector will continue to develop in a safe, modern, and sustainable direction, making a significant contribution to the nation’s socioeconomic development.

According to the Ministry of Science and Technology, VINANST - 16 attracted over 400 participants, including experts, scientists, and managers of ministries, branches, agencies, relevant localities, and domestic universities, along with professors and experts from countries with advanced nuclear science and technology.
