Da Nang student shines at ASEAN–India Youth Summit
DNO - Overcoming hundreds of applicants across Southeast Asia, talented student Luong Khanh Van from Da Nang was selected as one of just two Vietnamese students to attend the 5th ASEAN - India Youth Summit in Goa (India) in August, 2025.
For Van, a mathematics and computer science student at the University of Science and Education under the University of Da Nang, the summit marked more than just an academic milestone; it was a transformative experience.
“Participating in this international forum was a turning point. It gave me the chance to learn, connect with global peers, and showcase the culture and intellect of Vietnamese youth”, said Van.
The summit, organized by the India Foundation in collaboration with the Indian Ministry of External Affairs and the ASEAN Secretariat, brought together 175 young leaders - 100 from ASEAN nations and 75 from India - under the theme “Connecting the Youth, Shaping our Future”.
Discussions focused on 3 major topics: the green economy and sustainable development; innovation and entrepreneurship; and governance in the digital era.
Determined to contribute meaningfully, Van invested significant effort before the event, researching current reports, gathering insights from her professors and peers, and sharpening her English skills, particularly in public speaking and debate.
“This preparation helped me stay confident and composed during discussions,” she said.
Van’s greatest challenge in Goa was navigating discussions entirely in English, surrounded by delegates who spoke with speed and fluency. “At times I felt the pressure, but I reminded myself to stay courageous and genuine,” she recalled.
With encouragement from the Vietnamese delegation, she turned her anxiety into an opportunity for growth, gaining confidence with every exchange.
Alongside formal sessions, Van actively engaged in cultural exchanges introducing Vietnamese food, traditions, and daily life to international friends, while inviting them to visit Vietnam. These conversations, she noted, were as impactful as the policy debates.
Van’s academic and extracurricular record speaks volumes. She recently achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA, earned recognition as an “Outstanding Youth Following Uncle Ho’s Teachings” for two consecutive years, and has contributed to multiple international student exchange programmes.
Looking back, Van underscored the critical role of young people in addressing today’s global challenges. “From green growth to digital governance, youth have both a voice and a responsibility. For me, the summit was more than an exchange of ideas, it was a journey of self-discovery, showing me the capacity I have to help shape the future”, she said.
