Da Nang Hospital successfully performs first-ever living-donor liver transplant
DNO - The Da Nang Hospital has successfully performed its first living-donor liver transplant, marking a major milestone in the city’s healthcare sector.
Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, on Friday, visited and congratulated the Da Nang Hospital for successfully performing its first living-donor liver transplant.
Recognizing and appreciating the dedicated support of the 108 Military Central Hospital, Secretary Triet emphasized that the hospital not only supported Da Nang Hospital in this liver transplant but also continuously accompanied the Da Nang Hospital in various specialized medical missions.
He expressed his hope that in the coming time, more specialized medical techniques, especially those pioneered by the 108 Military Central Hospital, will be widely transferred to hospitals in the city, including the Da Nang Hospital.
On the occasion, the city Party chief congratulated and commended doctors, nurses and staff of the Da Nang Hospital, especially those who directly involved in the surgery.
He added that this was not only a professional success, but also demonstrated the prestige, confidence and capacity of the city's medical staff.
“This success is an important first step and a foundation for the Da Nang Hospital to continue mastering more complex and advanced techniques in the future, thereby better serving the healthcare needs of the people of Da Nang and Central Vietnam” he noted.
According to Dr. Le Duc Nhan, Director of the Da Nang Hospital, on August 28, 2025, the Ministry of Health issued Decision No. 2760/QD-BYT on recognizing the Da Nang Hospital as a medical facility qualified to perform liver transplantation from both living and brain-dead donors.
Just over a month later, with direct technical transfer from the 108 Military Central Hospital, the liver transplant team at the Da Nang Hospital successfully performed its first case.
In this operation, a wife donated part of her liver to save her husband. The surgery proceeded smoothly under close supervision and guidance from senior specialists of the 108 Military Central Hospital.
