Da Nang aims for smart healthcare system

Since 2024, the Da Nang Hospital has deployed two smart medical kiosks, located in the medical examination area.
Accordingly, patients can register for examination and payments by using their citizen ID cards, VssID or VNeID apps or facial recognition technology. All information is stored and synchronized throughout their medical examination and treatment process.
According to Dr. Le Duc Nhan, Director of the Da Nang Hospital, in the context of an increasing number of patients, digital transformation solutions help save time and improve satisfaction in medical examination and treatment at hospitals.
Instead of gathering in large numbers at reception or fee collection counters, patients are guided through separate service flows, with every step automatically recorded by the system, he added.
“More importantly, patient data is synchronized and secured, greatly supporting doctors in monitoring, diagnosing and treating” Dr. Nhan emphasized.
The digitalization roadmap of the city’s healthcare sector also aims to integrate patient data across all medical facilities in the city. This means that electronic health records, medical histories, and test results can be accessed quickly at any hospital or health center. Such connectivity helps avoid redundant testing, saving both time and costs for patients.
According to the municipal Department of Health, the city is implementing the over VND 488 billion project on developing smart healthcare which is expected to be completed by 2030.
The project will concentrate on six key groups of tasks: developing electronic medical records; national health record system; remote medical examination and treatment application; digitalization of medical examination and treatment processes; deployment of a cashless hospital fee payment platform; and construction of a smart healthcare operation center for management and coordination.
With a great determination to form a smart healthcare ecosystem, hospitals and medical centers citywide have been focusing on improving the quality of medical services and ensuring fairness in access to healthcare. This effort forms a crucial pillar of Da Nang’s vision to become a smart city by 2030.
Ms. Tran Thanh Thuy, Director of the municipal Department of Health, noted that the city is researching and piloting AI solutions in image diagnosis, patient record data analysis, and early warning systems for epidemics based on big data. These initiatives contribute to enhancing the healthcare quality and positioning Da Nang as a pioneer in developing a smart medical model in Vietnam.
