Digital innovation drives sustainable retail growth in Da Nang
DNO - Da Nang, Vietnam is speeding up sustainable retail development by embracing e-commerce, AI and digital technology to modernize shopping experiences and strengthen its position as a regional commerce hub.

On September 24, the Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade hosted a workshop, “Promoting E-Commerce Applications - Sustainable Retail Solutions in Da Nang,” gathering experts and business leaders to discuss strategies for modern, green and resilient retail development.
Nguyen Huu Tuan, the Director of the E-Commerce and Digital Technology Development Center under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, highlighted that AI and rapid digitalization are reshaping e-commerce trends.
Tuan calls for a “3-pillar” approach: smart government, digitally savvy consumers, and tech-driven businesses, with a new E-Commerce Law coming to the National Assembly in October 2025.
Da Nang has strengthened its retail ecosystem, hosting over 500 supermarkets, shopping centers, convenience chains and 240 traditional markets, supporting local enterprises, micro-businesses and street vendors, contributing significantly to the city’s economy.
In the first 8 months of 2025, total retail sales and consumer service revenue reached an estimated VND 168 trillion, up 24% year-on-year.
Challenges remain, including counterfeit goods, illegal imports, and cash-on-delivery risks. Local authorities recommend enhanced monitoring, international cooperation, digital solutions like blockchain and QR codes, and promoting safe consumer practices.
To expand e-commerce, Da Nang aims to develop online stores on major platforms, optimize logistics and payment systems, implement AI-driven product recommendations, and leverage AR for immersive shopping experiences. “Click & Collect” and cross-border e-commerce are key strategies to enhance convenience and consumer trust.
From a business perspective, Vu Xuan Linh of Shopee noted that Da Nang serves as aregional connection hub. Local enterprises can benefit from digital training programmes, provincial online stores, and export-ready platforms to access national and regional markets.
By combining government support, technological adoption and enterprise engagement, Da Nang is positioning itself as a sustainable, modern retail center in Vietnam’s evolving digital economy.
