Son Tra food: Coastal taste of Da Nang culinary heritage
DNO - Son Tra food captures the essence of Da Nang’s coastal soul, fresh seafood, humble village recipes and vibrant market life, blending tradition and creativity to craft a unique culinary journey for any traveler.

The Son Tra peninsula’s unique ecosystem, blending both land and sea, provides an abundance of fresh organic ingredients. Local dishes carry the soul of fishing villages, passed down through generations.
On rainy days, families gather around steaming pots of barracuda hotpot with pickled vegetables or mackerel porridge with ginger.
In summer, visitors enjoy fresh herring salad mixed with herbs, coconut shreds and tangy fish sauce, a refreshing taste of the sea.
At dawn in Tho Quang beach, round basket boats return with glistening nets full of fish and shrimp.
Just nearby, Man Thai seafood market comes alive, offering visitors a chance to pick the freshest catch and have it cooked on the spot.
Each meal tells the story of the sea and the resilience of the coastal community.
In 2025, Da Nang chef-entrepreneur Tran Van Thang launched the Son Tra Local Culinary Tourism Club.
The initiative brings together food lovers, fishermen, and tourism operators to position Son Tra as a leading culinary hub while preserving cultural authenticity.
Signature experiences include the "Lighting Up the Night Sea" journey, where travellers join fishermen at sea, dine by campfire with squid noodles or fish hotpot and embrace the spirit of Son Tra after dark.
Future plans include a vibrant street food zone inspired by Thailand’s success, featuring live seafood cooking, folk performances, cooking classes, and cultural games.
Technology will play a role too, with a dedicated Fanpage and AI-powered chatbot set to launch by the end of 2025, offering seasonal food recommendations, fishing schedules, and tour options.
With its blend of authenticity, innovation, and local pride, Son Tra is poised to become one of Vietnam’s most captivating culinary tourism destinations.
