Da Nang shapes future with semiconductors and AI
DNO - Semiconductors and artificial intelligence (AI) are considered two core areas for each country's economy. Keeping pace with global trends, Da Nang has been developing a strategy to position itself as a hub for new technology.

Notably, Da Nang has been laying an emphasize on the development of strategic technology infrastructure.
In particular, on January 16, 2025, the city inaugurated the Software Park No. 2 and put into operation the ICT1 building, with priority given to strategic partners and investors, and innovative enterprises in the semiconductor and AI fields.
On March 27, the FPT Corporation launched its Research and Development (R&D) Center for high technology and semiconductors.
Also, on July 28, the VSAP LAB JSC started work on a laboratory for the production of advanced packaging technologies (fab-lab) at the Da Nang Software Park 2 with a total capital of VND 1.8 trillion.
The facility consists of two main areas: a lab space for research and development of advanced packaging technologies; and a fab area for pilot production using real wafers, equipped with cutting-edge systems. It is expected to be put into operation in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Once completed and operational, the facility is expected to reach a design capacity of 10 million products per year to serve both domestic and international markets.

Regarding human resources and support policies, the municipal People's Committee has issued a development plan for semiconductors and AI under the Decision No. 257/QD-UBND.
The plan sets a vision for Da Nang to become one of Vietnam’s top three centers for semiconductor design and AI applications by 2030, as well as establish a network of training high-quality human resources and an innovation ecosystem in the fields.
Targets include training at least 5,000 high-quality professionals, establishing at least 30 design enterprises, two packaging enterprises, and at least five semiconductor startups.
Since 2024, eight universities and colleges citywide have begun admitting students into semiconductor majors, with 600 students enrolled in the first intake. Between 2025 and 2030, these institutions are expected to enroll around 1,000 students annually, helping Da Nang meet and exceed its workforce development goals under Decision No. 257/QĐ-UBND.
As a result, Da Nang's semiconductor ecosystem has expanded from 8 initial design companies to 25, attracting many large domestic and international technology corporations.
Among them, the FPT Corporation and Marvell Vietnam Technology Co., Ltd. have been officially recognized by the municipal People’s Council as strategic partners in the fields of semiconductors and AI.
