DNO - The western mountainous region of Da Nang is revealing new potential for the development of ecotourism and community-based tourism. Many localities here have been shaping their strategies with focus on unique tourism products imbued with highland identities.

The DhRoong community-based tourism village in Arh Hamlet, Dong Giang Commune is a typical example. It has been operating since 2019 with 35 participating households. The main tourism product of the village is the traditional brocade weaving of the Co Tu people.

Instead of weaving time-consuming traditional items, villagers have introduced smaller products such as bags, wallets, scarves and ties, which allows visitors to experience the weaving craft, bead on brocade or make their own souvenirs.

In addition to brocade weaving, visitors can experience community-based cultural activities such as weaving, folk singing, gong performances, ‘tung tung da da’ dancing, and enjoying Co Tu cuisine.

Meanwhile, Dong Giang Commune, located along National Highway 14G, is near famous tourist attractions such as Dong Giang Heaven Gate, Nui Than Tai Hot Springs Park, Hoa Phu Thanh, Lai Thieu and Suoi Hoa.

Aside from the unique cultural values of the Co Tu people, the locality has many untapped eco-tourism spots, such as Ka Dap, Ra Me and A Dinh streams.

Along the same national highway, authorities in Song Vang Commune are actively removing planning and land-related barriers to call for investment in eco-tourism and agritourism projects.

These projects include the high-end resort west of Ba Na, the eco-tourism area connecting the primeval forest at the foot of Anh and Em mountains, Ho Ban Mai eco-tourism area, and the tea eco-tourism service of Quang Nam Agriculture and Forestry JSC.

Another promising product is medicinal herb tourism. In the communes of Avuong, Tay Giang and Hung Son, journeys to medicinal gardens of Ba Kich under the canopy of the primeval forest have been exploited. They significantly contribute to diversifying visitors’ choices and increasing their length of stay.

Accordingly, tourists can trek into the forest to harvest herbs like ‘che day’, b’a kich’, and ‘dang sam’, while enjoying dishes and drinks made from local medicinal plants. They can also go cloud hunting, camp by streams, stay at homestays such as Loc Troi, and immerse themselves in Co Tu cultural life.

Notably, the tour "Journey to Discover the Legend of Ngoc Linh Ginseng" in the communes of Tra Tap, Tra Linh and Nam Tra My has been designed. The intention is to promote Ngoc Linh ginseng products, and at the same time create direct output for farmers, and enhance economic value for farmers.
