Nearly 500 athletes compete in National Athletics Championship 2025 in Da Nang
DNO - The 2025 National Athletics Championship officially kicked off at the Hoa Xuan Athletics Stadium in Da Nang on Saturday.
The event was jointly organized by the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Vietnam Athletics Federation.
In his opening speech at the event, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Trong Thao highlighted that the large-scale sporting event provided an opportunity for athletes across the country to exchange, learn from each other, share experience, and improve their competition skills.
This tournament also serves as an evaluation of athletes in preparation for the 2026 National Sports Festival.
At the same time, athletes with outstanding achievements will be reviewed by the coaching staff of the Vietnamese athletics team for selection to participate in the 33rd SEA Games later this year in Thailand.
Therefore, the competition events at the tournament promise to be attractive, dramatic, and of high professional quality.
“Da Nang hopes that the tournament will contribute to spreading the athletics movement widely, as well as promoting the beautiful image of the city and local people to domestic friends, thereby fostering the development of local tourism activities” Mr Thao noted.
This year’s tournament attracts nearly 500 athletes from 32 registered units nationwide. The contestants compete for 50 sets of medals including 24 events for men, 24 events for women, and 2 mixed relay events for men and women.
The competition events of the tournament take place from August 9 - 13 at the Hoa Xuan athletics field in the campus of the Da Nang Athlete Training and Coaching Center. The 20km walking events for both men and women are held outside Dam Sen field in Ngu Hanh Son Ward.
