The Da Nang administration has recently greenlit an ambitious inland waterway tourism and transport project worth nearly VND10 trillion (approx. US$390 million), including land clearance costs.

The Co Co River, running through Da Nang, is one of the key inland waterways in the new tourism infrastructure project.

Considered one of the city’s largest tourism infrastructure initiatives to date, the project will span 50 years and transform the major rivers of Han, Co Co, Vinh Dien and Cam Le running through the city into vibrant transport and tourism corridors.

The plan includes constructing, upgrading and expanding 20 reverside docks and auxiliary facilities across 15 hectares.

Notably, 11 docks will be backed by over 25 hectares of riverside parks, enhancing green public space while boosting sustainable tourism and the urban riverfront experience.

Beyond promoting tourism, the docks will serve as public transport nodes, linking downtown Da Nang with outlying areas and easing pressure on overburdened road networks.

Boats powered by clean fuel or green energy will be prioritized, with capacities ranging from 100 to 500 passengers to meet diverse mobility and tourism needs.

The project will roll out in two phases. Phase 1 (2025 - 2030) includes seven docks along the Han River and introduces river-based cultural performances.

Phase 2 (2028 - 2031) will deliver nine docks on the Co Co and Vinh Dien rivers and complete four on the Cam Le River.

With over 90 km of urban waterways, Da Nang aims to unlock the full potential of river tourism and transport.

Once completed, the project is expected to become a signature feature of the city’s vision for a green, livable, and water-oriented urban future.
