(QNO) - Quang Nam province is rich in cultural heritage and hosts the second-largest natural forest in Vietnam. It is preserving hundreds of rare plant and animal species, including ones listed in national and international Red Books.

Forests in Quang Nam have high coverage and rich biodiversity.

With over 681,000 hectares and nearly 59% forest coverage, forests in Quang Nam, which are known as the green lungs of Central Vietnam, are home to 1,129 plant species, over 50 species of large mammals, 270 species of birds, and many rare reptiles and amphibians.

The main forests stretch from the Tay Giang highlands to Nui Thanh and Phu Ninh, providing a home for unique species like the saola, grey-shanked douc langur, Truong Son muntjac, striped rabbit, and ancient-striped turtle, as well as valuable plants like agarwood, Parashorea chinensis, orchids, and Ngoc Linh ginseng.

Quang Nam has established biosphere reserves, such as Cu Lao Cham, special-use forests including Song Thanh National Park, langur protection zones, and coastal conservation areas.

These strictly protected sites benefit from support by international organisations, such as WWF and Green Viet, alongside local efforts to safeguard biodiversity.

To further forest protection and biodiversity conservation, the province now has seven nature reserves, including parts of Bach Ma and Song Thanh National Parks, reserves for saola and elephants, Ngoc Linh Reserve, My Son landscape protection area, and the Cu Lao Cham marine reserve.

Additionally, the animal care and conservation park in Vinpearl River Safari Nam Hoi An plays a vital role in preserving biodiversity. Together, these reserves maintain safe, natural habitats for wildlife and promote the long-term health of ecosystems.
