Implementation of two conservation projects at My Son Sanctuary
(QNO) - Two major conservation projects at My Son Sanctuary have been launched within less than two months to gradually restore the Cham architectural heritage buried underground for years.

On May 6, 2025, the Ministry of Culture approved the excavation of tower group L at My Son Sanctuary led by Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Quy. The excavation will cover 150 m² and last until July 30, 2025.
This project is crucial as the L group is one of the last temple clusters needing urgent preservation. Unlike previous efforts, tower group L will be conserved in its exposed state for visitor access.

Tower group L, located on a high mound and isolated from others, was partly excavated in 2019 as part of a joint training project with Milan Polytechnic University (Italy). The project resumed recently after delays caused by COVID-19.
Earlier in April 2024, Italy’s ambassador pledged full support for the excavation and restoration of tower group L.

Meanwhile, since March 2025, the India-funded conservation project for tower groups E and F has been underway.
The project includes restoring these groups and improving drainage and pathways and is expected to run until 2029 with a budget of USD 4.85 million.
After nearly two months, the project has cleared the area, collected artefacts, and uncovered walls around the E and F groups.
According to Nguyen Cong Khiet, Director of My Son Heritage Management, these projects will revive the entire My Son Sanctuary and pave the way for preserving other temple groups in the future.
