Colours of the brocade in Quang Nam
(QNO) - Brocade clothing is an indispensable part of the traditional festivals of the Sedang and Ca Dong people in Nam Tra My (Quang Nam). Each colour and pattern on these fabrics carries a sacred meaning.

A passionate artisan of traditional weaving, Tran Thi Kim Hoa, a Sedang craftswoman from Tu Chan village (Tra Cang commune), has created countless garments.

According to Kim Hoa, the colours and patterns remain unchanged though the materials may differ from the past. This is what allows the clothing of each ethnic group to be easily identified.

The Sedang clothing has its own distinctive colours compared to other ethnic groups, predominantly indigo, green, red, and yellow. While these colours may appear bright, they are suitable for various events. The intricate patterns contribute elegance to the garments.

In contrast, the main colour of Ca Dong attire is black, with common patterns in red and white. These are placed at the skirt hem, sleeve cuffs, and collar to create emphasis and distinguish them from other ethnic groups.
