Quang Nam - World Bank collaboration on integrated adaptation development project
(QNO) - On April 15, Deputy Chairman of the Quang Nam provincial People's Committee Tran Nam Hung had a working session with a World Bank (WB) delegation to discuss the preparation for the integrated adaptation development project.
This project aims to build sustainable infrastructure and enhance climate resilience in Quang Nam.
Present at the event was Yoohee Kim, WB’s Manager for urban and sustainability in East Asia, along with representatives from relevant Quang Nam provincial departments.
The working session focused on project progress, including technical documentation, environmental assessments, financial mechanisms, and investment plans. WB requested clarification on local funding and the readiness to disburse funds for priority components.
Yoohee Kim praised Quang Nam's proactive approach, confident the project will drive progress in sustainable urban development, agriculture, and disaster adaptation.
Deputy Chairman Tran Nam Hung thanked WB for its support, stating that Quang Nam is working to finalise documents and procedures to begin the project before the rainy season.
The focus will be on compensation, land clearance, and resettlement. Both parties aim to sign the loan agreement and launch the project by June.
The total investment for the Integrated Adaptation Development Project in Quang Nam is over VND 2.722 trillion (equivalent to USD 113.39 million), with USD 76.57 million from a WB ODA loan and VND 884 billion (36.82 million USD) in local funding.
The project will focus on urban development, sustainable agriculture, and disaster adaptation. It includes dredging the Truong Giang river, building new bridges, and improving flood drainage systems in Tam Ky.
The project also involves embankment construction to prevent erosion and improve storm protection for fishing boats.
