DNO - The first edition of the Da Nang Newspaper and Radio, Television Cross-Country Race - Agribank Cup in 2026 took place on Sunday morning at the March 24 Square in Ban Thach Ward.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Doan Xuan Hieu, Director of the Da Nang Newspaper and Radio, Television cum Head of the Organizing Committee of the tournament, emphasized that the inaugural edition of the race was not only a sporting event but also a continuation of a nearly 30-year tradition.

“The race embodies endurance, the will to conquer new heights, and the aspiration for development cultivated across generations of athletes and Da Nang residents through previous races organized by the Quang Nam Newspaper and the Da Nang Newspaper” he said.

He also noted that maintaining the annual race aimed to build a prestigious sports brand and contribute to promoting the image of Da Nang as a modern, dynamic, friendly, and vibrant city.
At the same time, the sports event provided opportunities for talented athletes in high-performance sports from the city and other localities to interact, compete, and enhance their expertise, Mr. Hieu said.

It also served as an important foundation for Da Nang to further affirm its strengths in athletics at national and international-level competitions.
Notably, this year marked the first time the race has received support for live television broadcasts on newspaper and radio, television agencies across Central and Central Highlands provinces and cities, including Hue, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, and Lam Dong, Director Hieu added.

The Da Nang Newspaper and Radio, Television Cross-Country Race - Agribank Cup 2026 was jointly organized by the Da Nang Newspaper and Radio, Television (DNRT) in coordination with the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Department of Education and Training, the city’s Public Security Department, the Military Command, the Labor Federation; and the Da Nang Youth Union.
It celebrated major national milestones, including the 51st anniversary of Reunification Day (April 30), the 136th birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19), and the 140th International Workers’ Day (May 1).
It also continued to promote the campaigns “All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho” and “Stay fit to build and defend the Fatherland”.

This year's tournament attracted 207 delegations with 2,129 athletes from communes, wards, and special zones citywide, junior and senior high schools, universities, colleges, and vocational institutions, central and local armed forces, militia, and self-defense units, as well as civil servants, public employees, and workers from agencies and departments across the city.
Additionally, it saw the participation of 11 delegations of high-achievement athletes from National Sports Training Centers and provinces and cities of Cao Bang, Dong Nai, Hung Yen, Lam Dong, Lang Son, Ninh Binh, Quang Ngai, Dak Lak, and Quang Tri, along with the National Youth Athlete Training Center and the Da Nang Sports Training and Coaching Center.

In the professional category, athletes competed in 5km for women and 7km for men. As part of the 10th Da Nang Sports Games 2026, teams from communes, wards, and special zones competed in 7km for men and 3km for women.
Mass participation events included departments and agencies (5km for men, 3km for women); senior high schools (3km for men, 2km for women); junior high schools (2km for men, 1.5km for women); semi-professional category (10km for both men and women); central armed forces stationed in the city (3km for men); local armed forces (3km for men); militia (3km for men, 1.5km for women); and self-defense forces of agencies (3km for men, 1.5km for women).
