Nature-based stays gain popularity in Da Nang

Returning to open spaces

Both Mr. Phan Thanh Nhon and his wife, residents of Ban Thach Ward, Da Nang, work office jobs and spend most of their days indoors in air-conditioned environments.

About every two weeks, Mr. Nhon's family arranges a short trip, prioritizing destinations within a radius of around 150 kilometers, so they can travel conveniently and return by Sunday afternoon.

Instead of choosing large urban tourist areas, Mr. Nhon prefers close-to-nature places where the family can stay overnight and experience a slower pace of life after days spent in enclosed working environments.

Since the beginning of the dry season, his family has made several trips to camping sites along the Cu De River.

The space here is almost completely unspoiled, with simple tents, each equipped with only a small fan. According to Mr. Nhon, what makes it different lies in the natural setting itself.

He added that each trip does not need elaborate services or sophisticated experiences. A space where family members can spend time together, stroll, swim in the river, grill food and relax is enough to recharge.

Waking up early in the morning, enjoying coffee in the open air, and watching the slow-moving water and the first morning sunlight, offer a refreshing contrast to everyday routines.

Among younger travelers, the trend is equally evident, though with more flexible choices. They often seek out quieter beaches with fewer visitors, favoring small homestays or setting up their own tents for overnight stays.

Organizing experience-oriented spaces

The growing demand for nature-based accommodation is creating new requirements for tourism destinations in Da Nang.

From February to August, especially during the peak months of May, June and July, many riverside and seaside camping sites and homestays are frequently fully booked, forcing visitors to make reservations in advance for weekend stays.

Mr. Le Tuan Anh, the owner of a camping site along the Cu De River, said he invested nearly VND 3 billion in the model not only for tents but also for supporting infrastructure such as restrooms, shower areas, electricity and water systems, kitchens and other essential facilities.

In coastal areas, the model is also developing rapidly, especially on beaches that still retain their pristine beauty.

Mr. Vo Hong Ron, the owner of a tourist attraction at the Tam Tien Beach, Tam Xuan Commune, said that during peak season, from around 4:00 pm, the number of visitors starts to increase rapidly, requiring staff to prepare everything early from cleaning and setting up power supply to seafood.

This year, many groups have booked early, especially for seaside tent accommodation.

"In addition to dining and swimming, we have expanded our products with SUP paddling, coral diving and experiences with local fishermen to encourage longer stays" he said.

Alongside the development of this type of tourism, the local authorities have also strengthened management efforts, particularly during peak holiday periods such as Hung Kings Commemoration Day and Reunification Day.

At the same time, tourism service providers are required to sign safety commitments covering electricity and water systems, as well as emergency response plans.

These measures aim to create a stable environment for the continued development of nature-based tourism as well as maintain the quality of the visitor experience.
