DNO - Stretching 32km underground, the Ky Anh tunnels in Thach Tan neighborhood, Ban Thach Ward, Da Nang, have long been an attractive tourist destination, especially for international visitors.

The tunnel system was dug by residents of the heroic Thach Tan village between 1965 and 1967 during the resistance war against the US. The Ky Anh tunnels stand today as a proud historical testament and serve as an important bridge in educating younger generations about revolutionary traditions and patriotism.
The site was officially recognized as a National-level Revolutionary Historical Relic in 1997. Since 2007, various sections of the tunnels have been restored by local authorities to better serve tourists for visits and experiences.
After coming across information about the tunnels online, Sandra Woudstra from the Netherlands, together with her friends, recently decided to choose Ky Anh as a stop during their Lunar New Year trip to Vietnam this year.

“The information I found online about the tunnels made me extremely curious and determined to visit at least once. In reality, everything was even more surprising. With only simple farming tools such as hoes, shovels and crowbars, local residents persistently dig a secret 32km-long tunnel system over several years” she said.
She added “Life inside the tunnels was extremely cramped and frequently flooded, but people remained steadfast and continued fighting. It truly shows the strength of their unity, resilience in the face of hardship, and deep love for their homeland”.
Mr. Mario Valerio Dattola, a visitor from Italy, expressed excitement as he descended into the tunnels, wading through several dozen meters with sweat rolling down his face. Emerging at a different exit point, he was surprised by the warm hospitality of local residents who greeted visitors with bright, welcoming smiles.

The Ky Anh Tunnels national-level revolutionary historical site receives around 12,000 - 15,000 domestic and international visitors every year.
Authorities in Da Nang are now focusing on enhancing the quality of tourism services at the site. The purpose is to develop the Ky Anh Tunnels into a distinctive experiential tourism product in the southern part of the city, as well as a meaningful historical destination where international friends can gain deeper insight into Vietnam’s great resistance war.
