Hoi An’s Tra Que vegetable village bustling with foreign tourists after floods

DNO - In recent days, 4-century-old Tra Que Vegetable Village in Hoi An, Da Nang has become lively again, welcoming numerous international visitors seeking hands-on rural experiences after the city was hit by heavy rains and floods.

On November 5 alone, dozens of foreign tourists visited the village, most arriving on foot or by bicycle.

On the afternoon of November 5, the Tra Que Herb Garden Restaurant hosted a multicultural group of European tourists who came to dine and relax.

Over a two-hour visit, they joined a variety of activities, including learning traditional organic farming techniques, enjoying foot massages, and taking part in a class on how to make ‘banh xeo’, a vibrant and flavourful Vietnamese crepe, before savouring local specialties.

This was the eighth tour group to visit the restaurant that day. With its elevated terrain and a farming area of around 18.5 hectares, Tra Que Village has long been a popular eco-tourism destination among Western travelers.

Visitors can explore every stage of vegetable cultivation, from soil preparation and fertilizing to planting and harvesting, and taste local dishes made with the village’s fresh produce, such as ‘banh xeo’, Quang noodles and ‘cao lau’, a traditional noodle specialty of Hoi An.

According to Tra Que Herb Garden owner Nguyen Trong Tuan, this was the eighth tour group of the day. Despite widespread flooding in other areas, the restaurant continues to receive between 10 and 15 tourist groups daily.

As many downtown services remain suspended due to the floods, more tour operators have redirected visitors to Tra Que.

With its picturesque setting, cultural authenticity, and welcoming atmosphere, Tra Que has once again proven to be a bright spot for Hoi An’s tourism industry, even in the wake of seasonal floods.

Tra Que Vegetable Village was established in the 16^th century, just 3 kilometers from Hoi An and 20 km from Da Nang.
