(QNO) - For over 40 years, artisan Duong Ngoc Thang (from Phuoc Kieu village, Dien Ban, Quang Nam) has been creating and improving beautiful bronze products that are highly valued by customers both domestically and internationally.
On a hot day in late May, at artisan Duong Ngoc Thang’s bronze workshop, craftsmen were carefully polishing fresh bronze pieces.
Mr. Thang is the fourth generation in a family of bronze makers specialising in creating items like Buddha statues, flower pots, paintings, trays, and traditional musical instruments.
According to artisan Thang, making bronze involves many steps, with mould-making and sound tuning being the most important, requiring skill and knowledge to meet customer expectations.
Most of the bronze products from Mr. Thang’s workshop are sent to temples, palaces, and tourist spots across Vietnam, including Sa Pa, Phu Quoc, Da Nang, and the Central Highlands.
His handmade bronze items are also popular with international customers as souvenirs. He said that he'd made gongs, lamps, and cannons, and some of his work had won national awards three times.
Locally, Mr. Thang is known for his quality bronze work, successful business, and teaching the craft to younger generations. In 2016, he received the “Meritorious Artisan” title from the President of Vietnam for his contributions to the community.
Mr. Thang’s workshop employs 12 craftsmen who earn stable incomes, with newcomers making about VND 9 million per month. In Phuoc Kieu village, seven households still practice bronze casting. Local authorities consistently support artisans by facilitating skill exchange and market access
