DNO - French architectural landmarks in Da Nang are not only part of Da Nang’s urban heritage but also serve as cultural bridges.

Statistics show that Da Nang is now home to about 20 valuable French-style architectural works.
Among them, eight buildings bear the distinctive mark of history and culture: the Da Nang Cathedral, the Museum of Cham Sculpture, the former headquarters of the Da Nang People’s Committee (now the Da Nang Museum), the Da Nang Court of Appeal, the Indochina Restaurant, the headquarters of the Da Nang Women's Union, the Da Nang Representative Office of the Ministry of Information and Communications, and the Marine Supply JSC.
What makes these French architectural landmarks truly unique is that they introduced architectural styles and building typologies previously unseen in Da Nang.
Designed by foreign architects, these structures embody Western architectural traditions and were strategically located in attractive and convenient areas, creating a distinctive space of a new urban area.
French architectural heritage is one of Da Nang's most distinctive assets, preserving and carrying countless cultural and historical stories of local land and people. These play an important role in shaping the city’s identity and supporting its development and international integration.

A prime example is the Museum of Cham Sculpture, which was built over a century ago. It combines Cham architecture with French Neoclassical design, evident in the use of Cham art models.
Meanwhile, the Da Nang Cathedral was constructed in the Gothic style typical of Western European cathedrals at the time.
Its most distinctive features include soaring pointed arches, vaulted roofs, diamond-shaped stained-glass windows and a cruciform floor plan.
The cathedral has been one of the city’s must-see tourist destinations. The artistic value of this type of Catholic cathedral architecture has contributed to the diversity of the spiritual and material life of locals.

French architectural landmarks in Da Nang are not only urban heritage sites but also cultural bridges between Vietnam and France.
The French architectural heritage is a testament to the spirit of cultural exchange and the integration of foreign influences into the indigenous identity of Da Nang and its people.
