DNO - Quang noodles are widely served across Da Nang City, from modest eateries to upscale restaurants, each with its own flavour and preparation style.

Building a brand on core values

According to Ly Dinh Quan, Chairman of the Da Nang Culinary Culture Association, Quang noodles represent a culinary and economic value chain rooted in more than 400 years of intangible cultural heritage. As Da Nang welcomes more international visitors, the dish should evolve from a local speciality into a distinctive tourism brand.

Quan called for documenting the dish’s artisans, ingredients, recipes and traditions while maintaining its authentic identity. He also proposed an annual Quang Noodles Festival to connect stakeholders.

Held on August 14 - 15, the 2026 Quang Noodles Festival brought together culinary practitioners and businesses through cooking demonstrations, brand showcases and cultural activities, promoting Quang noodles as both culinary heritage and a tourism product.

Promoting local specialities through experiences

Quang noodles have featured at major national and international events, including the 2017 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in Da Nang, where Giao Thuy served more than 1,300 portions to international delegates. Such occasions demonstrate the dish’s potential to become a signature tourism product.

According to Nguyen Duc Tuan, Chairman of the Da Nang Cultural Heritage Association, tourism promotion should go beyond slogans. While local eateries continue serving residents, tourists could be directed to professional establishments where they can experience both the dish and its cultural story. Authentic flavours and local hospitality can turn visitors into ambassadors for Quang noodles.

Nguyen Thi Hoai An, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the city should shift from “inviting tourists to enjoy Quang noodles” to “inviting tourists to experience Quang noodle culture”. Visitors could meet artisans, learn to make the noodles, and enjoy them in suitable cultural settings, linking the dish with food tours, community-based tourism, craft villages, and culinary events.

With its rich cultural heritage, Quang noodles can become a culinary "ambassador" for Da Nang, telling the story of the land and its people to visitors worldwide.
