(QNO) - On May 10, a conference took place to launch the project on developing a medicinal plant industry centre in Quang Nam with Ngoc Linh Ginseng as the key crop.
The event was held by the Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long, Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen, Quang Nam leaders, and representatives of localities, businesses, and organisations.
The project aims to maintain and develop raw material areas, prioritising Ngoc Linh ginseng cultivation. By 2030, Quang Nam plans to complete land-use planning, build infrastructure, and attract investment for the medicinal plant industry.
According to Do Xuan Tuyen, Vietnam is rich in medicinal plant resources, with over 5,000 species of significant medicinal value.
The Central Coast and Central Highlands, particularly Quang Nam and Kon Tum, are home to many rare plants, including Ngoc Linh ginseng, which has been recognised as a national treasure.
The development of the medicinal plant industry, including deep processing and branding, is crucial, particularly in Quang Nam with its unique climate and soil conditions. This will not only create economic benefits but also promote sustainable livelihoods for ethnic minorities in the region.
Giving a speech at the conference, Le Thanh Long highlighted the project’s role in boosting socio-economic development, particularly in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.
He emphasised that, while the project is a starting point, continued effort is needed to make Quang Nam a leading medicinal plant hub both in Vietnam and internationally.
uang Nam leaders promised to work closely with neighbouring provinces and businesses to make Ngoc Linh ginseng and other medicinal plants globally competitive.
Additionally, Quang Nam has signed cooperation agreements with multinational companies to develop infrastructure, transfer technology, and ensure deep processing in accordance with global standards.
