Since 2021, the city’s healthcare sector has deployed more than 3,000 new techniques, according to the municipal Department of Health.

In particular, the first-grade hospitals such as the Da Nang Hospital and the Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital have performed 80% of first-tier medical techniques and more than 60% of specialized ones.

Many modern, specialized medical techniques are being regularly applied at the Da Nang Hospital, the Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital and the Oncology Hospital, contributing to reducing the rate of patient referrals to central-level hospital.

According to Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hung, Director of Da Nang Oncology Hospital, the hospital has successfully performed the brachytherapy for the first time in Vietnam on a 2-year-old child patient with a 5cm tumor. Meanwhile, the Da Nang Hospital is also the first in the city to perform autologous stem cell transplants, with 3 patients having undergone this technique.

“These advancements have helped the hospital become one of the prestigious medical units in cancer treatment in Central Viet Nam” added Dr. Hung.

Currently, the city aims to upgrade the Da Nang Hospital into a special-class general hospital, and at the same time, develop it into the regional organ transplant coordination center for the Central Highlands and Central Viet Nam. The purpose is to ease patient overload in major hospitals in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City.

To realize this goal, the city’s healthcare sector has synchronously implemented many solutions with focus on upgrading infrastructure, enhancing the quality of resources, and strongly responding to modern medical technology.

Specifically, for the Oncology Hospital, the municipal Department of Health is investing in a modern radiotherapy system, and developing advanced cancer treatment techniques such as immunotherapy and targeted therapy. The hospital eyes becoming the leading cancer treatment center in the region by 2030.

The Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital is being upgraded to improve maternal and child healthcare capacity. Moreover, advanced reproductive support centers will be built, whilst newborn care services will be developed and the treatment of complex diseases will be improved.

All these preparations will help Da Nang become a specialized medical center, serving not only local people but also regional and international patients.
