DNO - Da Nang aims to become a major socio-economic hub of Vietnam and Southeast Asia by 2030, and an eco-smart city of Asian stature by 2045, Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang People's Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi said when receiving Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam James Nickel on Tuesday.
Sharing the city’s current socio-economic situation, Vice Chairwoman Thi informed her guest on a number of the city’s priority investment attraction aspects, including high-quality tourism, seaports, logistics, high-tech, information technology, digital economy, high-tech agriculture and fisheries.
She added that the city has been implementing a range of projects in semiconductors, microchips, artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), gene technology, and stem cells.
She also invited domestic and foreign organizations and enterprises to participate in the Vietnam International Financial Center to be established in the city.
Mrs. Thi noted although Da Nang has yet to set up official friendship or cooperative ties with Canadian localities and partners, it has recently welcomed many delegations of Canadian authorities and businesses. Included are representatives from Toronto City Council and businesses, Canadian International Development Agency, Canada - Vietnam Chamber of Commerce, and CINEC Education Group.
Meanwhile, Da Nang has sent delegations of officials to Canada to learn about and promote investment opportunities. Some local enterprises such as Hoa Tho Textile, Vinatex Da Nang, Associated Vietnam, Keyhinge Toys Vietnam, Daeryang, and Duy Thanh, have exported products to the Canadian market.
Canada has supported Da Nang through humanitarian projects focused on disaster recovery, and assistance for people with disabilities and underprivileged children.
Vice Chairwoman Thi hoped that the Ambassador will act as a bridge to foster friendly and cooperative ties between Canadian partners and Da Nang, particularly in tourism, green economy, and sustainable development, as well as encourage Canadian investors to visit and explore business opportunities in the city.
In reply, Ambassador James Nickel thanked the city for its warm welcome and expressed sympathy for the losses Da Nang residents suffered in recent floods.
Impressed by the city’s potential and dynamism, he described Da Nang as one of Vietnam’s most exemplary localities.
The Canadian diplomat pledged to do his utmost to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, and between Da Nang and Canadian localities.
Many Canadian corporations have invested in Vietnam and Canada wanted to continue to expand investment opportunities as well as financial cooperation with Da Nang, he added.
