DNO - Siblings Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc and Nguyen Thanh Ngung from Da Nang extended their dominance at the national level by winning gold medals in the race walking event at the 2025 National Athletics Championship taking place on the home ground.
With the experience and class of Vietnam's No. 1 female race walker, Thanh Phuc pulled away from the pack right from the starting line. Finally, she finished in 1 hour 39 minutes 40 seconds to take the gold medal. Notably, this was her 19th consecutive national gold medal.
Similar to his sister, Thanh Ngung also excellently won the gold medal in the men's event with a time of 1 hour 30 minutes 37 seconds. This was the 15th national gold medal of his career.
After this tournament, Thanh Phuc and Thanh Ngung will focus on the preparation for the 33rd SEA Games. At the regional sporting event, Thanh Phuc has so far grabbed 5 gold medals, while Thanh Ngung has earned a silver medal.
The 2025 National Athletics Championship is taking place in Da Nang from August 9 - 13. It attracts nearly 500 athletes from 32 registered units nationwide, competing for 50 sets of medals including 24 events for men, 24 events for women, and 2 mixed relay events for men and women.
This tournament serves as an evaluation of athletes in preparation for the 2026 National Sports Festival.
Additionally, athletes with outstanding achievements will be reviewed by the coaching staff of the Vietnamese athletics team for selection to participate in the 33rd SEA Games later this year in Thailand.
