DNO - In the face of complicated developments of heavy rains and flooding, Da Nang authorities have quickly deployed emergency response measures to rescue and support residents and tourists.
Since the afternoon of October 27, authorities in Hoi An Ward have been implementing rescue and support measures for residents and tourists stranded by floodwaters.
Specifically, aside from publicizing hotline phone numbers of members of the Flood and Storm Control Steering Committee, the ward leaders arranged 10 motorized and rowing boats, offering free instant noodles and bottled water, to be ready help transport residents and tourists to safe locations when needed.
On the evening of October 28, Hoi An Tay Ward deployed two teams to assess the situation on site and promptly deliver food supplies to locals.
Meanwhile, Hoi An Dong Ward helped relocate nearly 300 tourists staying at low-lying hotels to higher ground or to more convenient locations to go to the airport to return home.
In addition, many philanthropists have also joined hands to provide food and accommodation for the needy, reflecting the spirit of mutual love in the community.
On the morning of October 28, Mr. Truong Van Quy, the owner of the Sabirama Hoi An Restaurant, announced on his personal Facebook page that he currently had 4 dry rooms that can accommodate 25 - 30 people.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Le Thi Anh, the owner of Le Anh Bakery in Dien Ban Dong Ward, baked hundreds of cakes, and prepared drinks and fruits to send to the Quang Nam Regional General Hospital to support patients and their relatives.
On the evening of the same day, residents in Tam Anh Commune gathered to make 400 traditional “banh tet” and “banh chung” overnight, as well as mobilized necessities such as instant noodles, rice, drinking water and clothes to support people in flooded areas citywide.
Though modest in scale, these acts of kindness have spread widely throughout the city’s flooded areas, showing the deep sense of unity and mutual support among Da Nang people, especially in difficult times.
According to a report from the Da Nang Sub-Department of Water Resources and Irrigation, as of 5:00 am on October 29, prolonged heavy rain had caused rising river levels, resulting in widespread deep flooding and a high risk of flash floods and landslides in multiple areas.
It is forecasted that from the morning of October 29 to the night of October 30, the city will continue to have heavy to very heavy rain, with rainfall ranging from 100 - 200mm in the plains, 150 - 250mm in the mountainous areas, and some areas exceeding 350mm.
Severe flooding continues in low-lying areas along the rivers, especially in the communes of Que Phuoc, Nong Son, Duy Xuyen, Ha Nha, Dai Loc, Hoa Tien, Hoi An and Nam Phuoc, with the disaster risk level remaining at tier 3.
