DNO - Two Da Nang beach staff were honoured for helping an Australian tourist recover a valuable diamond ring lost in the sand, showcasing the city’s hospitality and responsible tourism management.
On August 4, the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourist Beaches honoured its members, Mr. Phan Thanh Trinh and Mr. Pham Nhu Dong, for having helped the Australian tourist recover a lost engagement ring. Both men are members of Task Force No. 2, which manages beach tourism order.
The incident occurred several days ago, when a female tourist from Australia accidentally dropped a diamond ring at Cua Dai Beach. Understanding the emotional and monetary value of the item, estimated at over US$ 2,000, Trinh and Dong brought a metal detector to the site and searched for hours along the shoreline.
Eventually, they found the ring buried deep beneath the sand and returned it to its rightful owner, who was overwhelmed with emotion and burst into tears.
Their actions have been widely praised by the public. Mrs. Truong Thi Hong Hanh, the Director of Da Nang's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, publicly commended their responsible and compassionate behaviour, saying the department would issue a formal commendation.
This is not the first time Trinh has stepped in to help visitors. On July 25, he and his team assisted two tourists in recovering their lost iPhones at My Khe Beach.
In just the first half of 2025, the beach tourism task force helped recover 31 lost items for tourists, strengthening Da Nang’s image as a safe, welcoming, and tourist-friendly destination.
