The event carries special significance as it coincides with a new phase of the city’s development, following urban expansion and an increasingly ambitious vision of regional connectivity.

When fireworks masters face off

Compared with last year, DIFF 2026 features a similar scale in terms of participating teams and countries, bringing together 10 fireworks teams from nine countries and territories: Vietnam, China, Italy, Germany, Portugal, France, Japan, Macau (China) and Australia.

Notably, four teams will be making their debut at the festival, promising fresh artistic styles and new creative perspectives that enrich the festival’s international character.

Vietnam will be represented by two teams - Da Nang Fireworks Team and Z121 Vina Pyrotech - which continue to play a bridging role between local identity and global fireworks traditions.

The mix of seasoned competitors and first-time participants is expected to create a season marked by discovery, surprise and emotional resonance.

According to the organizers, DIFF 2026 will unfold over six competition nights. The themes explore the city’s core values, from nature, heritage and culture to creativity and future vision, culminating in the grand finale titled “Da Nang - United Horizons”.

Technology remains central to enhancing the audience experience. The application of Sky AR technology allows spectators to interact directly with the fireworks display and personalize their viewing experience on individual devices.

Laser LED projections across the Han River and surrounding buildings transform the cityscape into a multi-dimensional stage, complemented by real-time sound technology that ensures synchronized music and fireworks can be fully enjoyed from any vantage point.

Experts note that the participation of two major fireworks powerhouses - Macau (China) and Japan - is set to heighten competition and intensify the excitement of DIFF 2026.

The championship-winning team will receive a prize of US$20,000, along with a trophy and a certificate. Additional awards include the Audience Choice Award, voted by the public, worth US$5,000 and a certificate; the Creativity Award, valued at US$5,000 and a certificate; and the Promising Team Award, also carrying a US$5,000 prize and a certificate.

Expanded line-up of large-scale supporting activities

Alongside the spectacular competition nights at DIFF 2026, a wide range of large-scale cultural, artistic, sports and entertainment activities will take place throughout the event period, offering rich content and a high level of public interaction.

Among the highlights are signature festivals such as River Fest and Beer Fest, as well as immersive experiences across the Sun Paradise Land ecosystem. Together, these activities transform the entire city into a continuous, vibrant experiential space, sustaining the festive atmosphere well beyond the fireworks displays.

Amid the lively festival rhythm, Da Nang also presents visitors with diverse exploration options on non-fireworks days.

The Sun World Ba Na Hills stands out as a major attraction, where summer 2026 continues to come alive with beer festivals, high-quality artistic performances, nighttime entertainment and a distinctive European-style architectural setting above the clouds.

In addition, familiar yet ever-refreshing journeys add depth to the visitor experience. These include watching sunrise at My Khe Beach, exploring the Son Tra Peninsula, visiting the My Son Sanctuary, immersing oneself in the cultural flow of Hoi An, or simply enjoying a leisurely afternoon at riverside cafés along the Han River.

Together, they paint a picture of Da Nang as a city that balances festive energy with a relaxed, livable rhythm.

DIFF 2026 will take place over six competition nights, with fireworks displays staged at the Han River Port area. The main grandstand and performance stage will be located along Tran Hung Dao Street, opposite the firing site, continuing the setup used in previous editions of the festival.

The opening night on May 30, themed “Nature,” will feature a head-to-head competition between the host team, Da Nang Fireworks Team of Vietnam, and Team China.

The second night, on June 6, under the theme “Heritage,” will see Team France compete against Z121 Vina Pyrotech of Vietnam.

The third night, scheduled for June 13 and themed “Culture,” will showcase a contest between Japan’s debut team and Italy’s seasoned fireworks team, a familiar and experienced participant at DIFF.

The fourth night on June 20, themed “Creative,” will feature Germany competing against Macau (China).

The fifth night, on June 27, with the theme “Vision,” will bring together teams from Australia and Portugal.

The grand finale will take place on July 11 under the festival’s main theme, “Da Nang – United Horizons.”
